Making an animated video for "Come Away"

Hello Everyone its been a while.... I've been as some of you know back and forth to Israel putting out some music there and spending some time with my family. I might have been gone for a bit but the work on "Running Still" continues and there are many cool new songs and ideas in the pipeline.
Today we just got back from shooting a video for "Come Away" me and Ben with some wonderful friends.
Marybeth from "Milly Beau" played the lead female role, my cousin Bea played a turtle and Lindsay played one of the animated characters. What you see in the pictures is us on a green small couch and behind us a green wall so that later Matt Brewster the director animator can take only us with no background and animate the whole freaking thing!!!

Matt is just awesome!!!

Last night was a blast!!

Bowery is one of our favorite venues! The space is great, it sounds amazing (thanks to the incredible staff!) and it was sold out! Great way to spend St Patrick's day!

Lion of Ido were on after us, they sounded awesome! Very cool! We shared some gear with them, super nice peeps! Thanks Krista for the bass cab!!

Then Ryan Star came on. What a voice! Great live show! I had heard his tunes before and really liked them but he and his band were even better live!

Hi everyone i'm about to have shabat dinner with my family while a few hours away there is a sad terrible war. people in bomb shelters, people and children killed and hurt. but life goes on in this crazy world of ours we eat and we keep breathing and dreaming....... there are many demonstrations here in Israel against the war by jews and Arabs. i saw one yesterday, a few hundred Arabs and Jews together saying we are brothers and want to live in peace. hopefully one day that will happen.

Greetings Stillheads!

I hope that life is treating you well. There's much to report and only so much free space on the Internet, so let's get down to business!

It's been a minute since my last post, but we've been staying busy spreading the word. Our most recent excursion took us to Delaware, Vermont and good 'ol Jersey for a great weekend full of good folks and good tunes.

We kicked the weekend off with a killer diller show at the Dewey Beach Music Conference in Delaware. What a great time! It was great to see our friends The Tamboureens and Bojibian, and a pleasure to play for such a great crowd! Our first time at the festival, but hopefully not our last.

After our show at the DBMC, it was straight to Bennington, VT for a show at one of our favorite spots: Southern Vermont College. It was a nice, long set, and we gave the audience a few surprises...

Great to see some old faces and some new, and I was totally psyched to have some friends and family in the house. After the show, we had a swingin' shindig at the VT Jones crib where we jammed on some tunes and had a few beers by the mobile fire. Awesome night!

We closed the trip off with a visit to The College of New Jersey for a cancer benefit hosted by our favorite emcee, Catherine Cosentino. A most excellent show with a GREAT crowd! They even got in on the action a little bit...

Thanks again to Cat for having us and to Emma for passing that mailing list around!

In other news, we're getting geared up for our trip to the UK on November 17th, so if you're in London, GET READY!

hi everyone
I hope your having a good week.
we just got back from a week tour we did...... we were in long beach island and north carolina and CT and york PA
we had a great time playing and we feel we really connected to some good people..... that always feels good!
we had to crash at peoples houses and thank you for letting us do that. its intresting to see how everywhere we went it was diffrent but simular at the same time.
it was also ZACHS BIRTHDAY!!! he turned 21..... and we drank whisky at the bar and did some shots!!!!
our young laddi is a man and a well put together one i must say........

tomorrow our album will be in the stores!!! yeay!!!!!

Good evening, ladies and gentle-men (to be said in the voice of Heath Ledger's Joker)...

I'm proud to say that we officially GOT THE WORD OUT on Saturday in Philadelphia, PA! Had a great time with new friends Matthew Pop (pictured below), Steve Kolter, Singsation and Prep-A-Red.

Ben was busy elsewhere (dentist? gig? gay club? Nobody's sure...), but Asi, Raed and I brought the jams hot, heavy and acoustic. Raed and I even laid down some beats behind some of Mt. Airy's hottest (and presumably only) hip-hop. We wrapped it all up with some killer diller cheesesteaks at Chubby's. An excellent evening to be sure!

Our record hits the shelves on August 19th, but in the meantime, be sure to check out a fabulous new pop outfit called The Major Labels. Unbelievable singer/songwriter Mike Viola has been one of my biggest musical heroes for years, and he's joined forces with fellow pop genius Bleu and a wicked drummer named Ducky Carlisle to create one of my favorite records this year. Be sure to download the album and think of me while shouting the choruses to "Velveteen Queen," "The Bitter Pill," and "Aquavia" at the top of your lungs.

Here we sit in a small coffee house in Worcester, Mass.

Our drive was a bit longer than anticipated (it's ALWAYS rush hour in NYC...), but it gave us a chance to listen to some new mixes of "Losing My Reality" (that's the title of our upcoming album, by the way). Let me tell you... it's going to be terrific! JK and Dave at Pulse in NYC are doing a bang-up job with the tunes while Steve over in the UK is putting his brilliant stamp on some new jams and a couple that you'll recognize. Can't wait for you to hear this record!

Looking to have sex on a plane

(Hey, it's easier than winning a Grammy)

It's called Running Still, but this Brooklyn-based rock quartet is certainly on the move. In January 2008 the group signed with EastWest Records, a subsidiary of the Warner Music Group, and its self-titled album is due out on Aug. 19.

"We're finishing up the record," says lead singer and songwriter Asi Meskin. "We're almost done with the vocals and about to start mixing, so we're very excited."

Meskin and his bandmates recently returned from England, where they had the opportunity to record with the legendary Robert Wyatt. Bassist Ben Zwerin says, "We went to England to hang out with Robert Wyatt for a few days — which was amazing — and ended up recording him on one track, ‘Come Away.' He did a bunch of wordless vocals."

Zwerin explains that Atlantic Records in the UK decided to release "Come Away," partly because of Wyatt's involvement, along with two other tracks on an EP. Before returning stateside, the band also got to work with Steve Orchard, one of the sound engineers and producers at George Martin's Air Studios in London. Orchard, who has worked with artists like Peter Gabriel, Sting and Paul McCartney, mixed Running Still's "Come Away," the song that will be the single off their UK release. "That was definitely the highlight of our year so far," says Meskin.

Upon its return to the States, the guys got back on the road. "We've been together for five years, and we've been touring throughout New England at clubs and colleges for about three years," says Meskin. Meskin, who also plays the acoustic guitar and keyboard, met Zwerin after approaching him on the street in Manhattan's Lower East Side. The two became friends and started playing in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The band only truly came together, however, with the addition of two more players: guitarist Raed Khazen and drummer Zach Jones. Image

With catchy choruses and a melodic pop rock sound similar to bands like Snow Patrol and Coldplay, Running Still has built a devoted following of fans. "We really want to connect with every single person we meet," says Zwerin. "For us, it's not about spending a million dollars on promotion, it's about going out on the road and meeting everybody." Still, that's not to say these guys don't have goals. Meskin would like to play Madison Square Garden, win a Grammy and share a stage with Stevie Wonder.

"I want to have sex on a plane," Zwerin quips. "It's an easier goal to realize than the Grammy. In general though, we want to be able to do what we love — make music, make records — for a long time."

We had such a good time down there, by the beach!
We hung out with Zach's folks, Michelle and Dave, and his sister Natalie, also hung out a lot with our new best friend Jazz (she rocks!!) who is such a good hostess, she even lent us her car to drive back to NY when ours had a little wheel problem... That will not be forgotten!!

We played on memorial Day (so did the "Telephone Junkies" and the "Dave Jones Memorial Day Blues Explosion"...). Asi, Zach and Dave ended up playing some Beatles tunes until sunset! I have to say, it was so much fun to just jam for a while!!

So we've been in the studio, recording our album, for a couple of weeks now. It's such a trip! Great place ("Pulse" in Manhattan), great producers (JK and Karl) , great team (Dave engineers; Chris, Adam, Steve ... are around to make shit happen...), and of course we've been hooking it up big time! It's sounding even better than we expected!!

So, let me give you the backdrop..... It all started in sept. 07; i was hangin with one of my closest friends here, who happens to be a kick-ass bass player and who happened to play with this really great singer songwriter called Asi in a band called Running Still that i secretly wanted to play with for a while but didnt want to step on any toes, if u know what i mean. So, as i said, we were hangin, shooting the shit, talking about life and all that beautiful stuff musicians talk about.... I was coming out of a musical hiatus and was ready to get back in the grove of things. But i was looking for an intimate musical experience where friendship and personnal interactions were the highlights. I was tired of prostituting myself left and right, being left at the end of the night with nothing else to hold on to but a bunch of dollars. Running Still was looking for a guitarist who would commit to a journey and a whole experience; who kicks ass, rocks hard and looks tight.... (thats me)
The next day Ben called me and asked if i would want to give it a shot. Come down to the space and jam a few songs he said. My reply was: well of course, i would love to. No strings attached of course; cos u know musicians and commitment....two things that dont really work well together...so u gotta have an exit strategy. After jammin the songs, we just knew that that was it. Of course we both agreed that we should give it a shot and perform and travel to see how we feel before making a full fledged commitment. So we did. Three months later things felt even better and better, more natural. We started working on new songs together and playing more and more. The pieces were falling into the right place. In January, a long-awaited record deal came to fruition. Signed, sealed, delivered; Running Still didnt intend to be still in any way that dealt with music. Beautiful new songs, an amazing collaboration with Robert Wyatt and a recording session would be the building blocks of our debut album.
Yesterday, Day 1 of the final step (the recording) ended. How do we feel? Well, wait till you hear it; you will know..... But i can tell you this: we cant wait to be done, and be on the road performing and doing what we love the most.

Greetings Still-heads!

I'm writing to you on the eve of basic tracking for our full-length debut and, as expected, I can't seem to fall asleep. I'm currently zoned out here in front of my computer, enjoying "The Last Waltz," because Levon's grooves make the best late-night company. Can't wait to check out the new Stones flick. Which reminds me... have you heard the new Raconteurs album yet? I digress...

The point of this entry is to let you know that 2008 is shaping up to be a fine year for Running Still. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this motley crew via Craig's List in early January, and we've been busy rockin' and rollin' ever since. It's exciting and inspiring to be part of a group with such great musicians, artists and human beings. But that's enough of that.

This record is going to flip you out. The tunes are fantastic, the band is tight, the ideas keep flowing, and we haven't even started recording yet. After it's finished, we'll be hitting the road to get the word out to every citizen of these here United States... and BEYOND!! You can expect to hear it digitally sometime in July, but all of you collectors will have to wait till August 19 for the hard copy.

Alright so after knowing we were in the Warner family for a while, we finally signed a specific deal!!! We'll have our own label (Comfortably Numb) under East/West (Warner).

It's kindda like having an indie/major thing and we're very excited about it!!

Now we can't wait to start touring more...

Look for the record coming around late spring...

Hi Everyone thats reading this blog....

this is a very exciting time for us we are going into the studio soon to record a bunch of new tunes! we are putting out the album this summer and were thrilled about that!!

we will be blogging a lot of stuff the recordings the touring and a bunch of little things that might be meaningless and some very meaningful.... like everything else in life depending on where your looking from. quate of the week -----PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING-----
